John Waugh born 1687 Scotland died Sept. 6, 1781. Some records show from Londonderry NH, others show born 28 Apr 1687 Dundee, Angus, Scotland which might make him a son of James and Isobell (Alison) Waugh (no proof of his birth has been documented.) Arrived at Boston 1718, Lived Maine, Londonderry New Hampshire then to South Farms, Litchfield County, Connecticut by 1745. He purchased 50 acres of land south of the Great Pond, now Bantam Lake. He built this house lot and cleared the land for farming with his four sons, Robert, Joseph, Thomas, and Alexander. They kept a constant watch for hostile Indians as the nearest stockade for protection was two and a half miles away in Morris. In 1748 he purchased 100 acres and in 1751 he purchased another 100 acres, owning all the land from his house to Bantam Lake. John Waugh died at South Farms, Morris, Litchfield Co. Connecticut Married Margaret ---- on --- Margaret --- was born 1699/1700 died 15-Feb-1773. He and his brother Lloyd had put in a blast, after which he resolved to go down and see what work it had done. He became sick and made the fact known. After his brother lowered the bucket he succeeded in reaching very near the top but fell back to the bottom. Friends gathered and drew him from the well almost dead. Dr. Keys from Blairstown was immediately summoned, but thought the injuries were internal. The poor man lived about 5 minutes after the doctor arrived.
